Oakland County Personal Injury Attorney Discusses Michigan Auto Insurance
Hello, my name is John Alexander and I am a personal injury attorney with offices in Oakland County and practicing in the entire state of Michigan. I want to just mention today that it is mandatory, that if you drive in Michigan and you own a vehicle, that you have motor vehicle insurance. It’s mandatory, but it’s important for two reasons.
One, if you get into a motor vehicle accident, the insurance company that you have for your car will provide for your no fault benefits, wage loss, and things like. And second, this will allow you to file a claim or a lawsuit against another driver if the other driver was at fault for your personal injuries, pain and suffering and things like that.
Please note that if you do not have insurance, you will not only be precluded from getting any type of medical coverage from your insurance care, because there isn’t one. But also, you will not be able to file a claim for your personal injuries against the at-fault driver.
And it does not matter, how egregious the conduct was of the at fault driver. He could have ran a red light, he could have been blind stinking drunk, he could have been just goofing around and driving recklessly it does not matter. If you don’t have insurance that was in effect on the day of the accident, you can’t file a claim against the other driver. I know no one intentionally doesn’t carry insurance. Sometimes you get a notice to pay your bill from the insurance carrier and you forget to pay it. So you have to be mindful of that so you can file a claim if necessary.
Hopefully, you don’t have a claim, but you need to maintain your insurance. If you have any questions on this, you can call me to discuss at 248 290 5600.
