Cognitive Distraction While Driving in Michigan

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, drivers using a cell phone (either hands free or hand held) will not process “up to 50% of the information in their driving environment”. In other words, although drivers are looking at the road and its hazards, they are not truly “seeing” them and therefore have a higher chance of getting into an accident. The lesson learned is that it is much safer not to drive your automobile while using your cell phone. Apparently, using your cell phone while driving is akin to being impaired by alcohol.
